Bioforce Vogel Aesculus Gel

Bioforce Aesculus Gel is an easily absorbed gel containing the fresh extract of Horse Chestnut. It is used to help alleviate tired, heavy legs, night cramps and varicose veins.

A herbal extract made from the fresh seeds of Aesculus hippocastanum- the Horse Chestnut Tree.
Aesculus has been used for venous conditions since the end of the 19th Century. It is a tall tree characterised by large sticky buds and a seed which will be instantly recognisable to many children who spend their autumn afternoons seeking out the biggest and best conkers to thread on to a piece of string.
The origin of the family name Aesculus is unclear. The species name hippocastanum, literally means Horse Chestnut. This term probably arose from the early use of the seed to treat coughing and broken wind in horses, distinguishing it from the chestnuts eaten by humans.
The use of Aesculus in venous disorders has been recognised for a long time. In the past Aesculus was also used as an ingredient in snuff to treat nasal polyps. A widespread belief held previously was that carrying horse chestnut seeds 'in ones pocket' would prevent gout, rheumatism and backpain.

Mode of Action
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Astringent (tones blood vessels)
  • Antioedema

There are many constituents found in Aesculus which are important therapeutically - these include saponins (aescin), flavonoids, tannins and coumarins. The clinical action of Aesculus in peripheral venous disorders appears to depend on a number of these constituents, rather than just one.

Flavonoids exhibit an anti-inflammatory action. Tannins have astringent properties, helping to tone the vessel walls.

Aesculus Gel is the constituent which appears to have the ability to inhibit oedema. It possesses anti-inflammatory action and increases venous tone.

In varicose veins, aescin can influence the initial phase of inflammation by exerting a 'sealing' effect on 'leaky' capillaries, reducing both the number and diameter of capillary pores. It also inhibits the activity of lysosomal enzymes which have the ability to damage the walls of veins and capillaries.

Directions for use:

  • Apply sparingly and massage gently into skin 2-3 times daily.
  • Do not apply to the face. Avoid contact with the eyes or mucous membranes. Wash hands thoroughly after use. Do not apply to inflamed or broken skin
  • For external use only.
  • Keep out of reach and sight of children.
  • Store at room temperature in a dry placet
