How do I take/use this medicine?

Take Entecavir exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Entecavir is best taken on an empty stomach, at least 2 hours before or after a meal. This will help improve the absorption of the medication.

Take Entecavir at regular intervals as instructed. Do not skip any doses. Continue to take Entecavir even when you feel better. You must complete the entire course of medicine. If you don't, the infection will not be properly controlled.

What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease or AIDS (HIV).

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Consult your doctor if you plan to become pregnant. If you are a woman of childbearing age, use adequate birth control while being treated with Entecavir.

Do not breastfeed while being treated with Entecavir.

Inform your doctor immediately if you notice stomach discomfort or cramps, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, muscle cramps or pain, unusual tiredness or weakness. These may be symptoms of a condition called lactic acidosis.

Hepatitis B can be passed to other people through blood and body fluids. Follow your doctor's advice on ways to prevent passing the disease to others.

What side effects could I experience?

Entecavir may cause extreme tiredness, diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, bloatedness, headache, difficulty falling asleep. These side effects are usually temporary. If you have diarrhoea, drink lots of water to replace the fluids lost.

Entecavir may also cause dizziness. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes, stop the medicine and inform your doctor quickly. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.

Entecavir may cause other side effects. Consult your doctor if you have unusual problems while taking this medicine.
