Ingredients

  • LEVOBUNOLOL 0.50%

How do I take/use this medicine?

Apply Levobunolol in the affected eye(s) exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor. Do not stop treatment with Levobunolol unless your doctor has advised you to do so.

Follow these steps:
1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before applying the eye drop.
2. Tilt your head slightly backwards and look upwards.
3. Use your finger to gently pull the lower eyelid down.
4. Apply the required number of drops inside the lower eyelid.
5. Close your eye and gently press the corner of your eye (near the nose bridge) for 1 minute.
6. If you have been given other eye drops to be used together with Levobunolol, wait at least 10 minutes in between eye drops.

Do not allow the tip of the eye drop bottle to touch your eyes, eyelids or other surfaces. Recap the eye drop immediately after use. If the eye drop becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your eyes.

If you are wearing soft contact lenses, remove them before applying Levobunolol. Wait for at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses. Some brands of Levobunolol may contain benzalkonium chloride as a preservative. This may discolour soft contact lens and cause eye irritation.

Do not share your eye drop with anyone else.

What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Alert your doctor if you suffer from thyroid disease, low blood sugar, allergies or a muscle condition known as myasthenia gravis. Inform your doctor if you have any other eye problems or if you are about to have or have had surgery performed on your eyes.

If you have diabetes, you will need to monitor your sugar levels more closely while being treated with Levobunolol.

Alert your doctor if you have any eye infection.

Some brands of Levobunolol contain benzalkonium chloride as a preservative. This may discolour soft contact lens and cause eye irritation. If you are using contact lenses, you should remove your lenses when applying the eye drop. Wait for at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.

You will need to have your eyes checked regularly to monitor the pressure in your eyes. It is important that you keep all appointments with your doctor.

If you are going for an operation, including minor operations and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are being treated with Levobunolol.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have a history of, or suffer from any of these conditions:

- heart disease or heart failure
- unusually fast or slow heartbeat
- asthma
- lung disease
- circulatory problems such as Raynaud's disease or intermittent claudication
- chest pain (Prinzmetal's angina)
- an adrenal gland tumour known as phaeochromocytoma
- low blood pressure
- a metabolic condition known as metabolic acidosis
- problems with your cornea

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?

Avoid alcohol.

Why do I need this medicine?

Levobunolol is used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure in the eye.

Levobunolol helps to lower the pressure in the eye. If left untreated, an increase in pressure within the eye can cause loss of vision and damage to the eyes.

What side effects could I experience?

Levobunolol may cause blurred vision or dizziness. If you are affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert or be able to see clearly.

Common side effects with Levobunolol may include eye irritation, redness, itch, pain or discomfort, dry eyes, eyelid inflammation and visual disturbances. Inform your doctor if these side effects are severe or if they do not go away.

Other side effects are less common but may be serious. Alert your doctor immediately if you experience swelling of the face and throat, breathing difficulties, wheezing, slow or irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness or low blood sugar.

Alert your doctor if you experience any other side effects while being treated with Levobunolol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store below 25°C away from the reach of children.

Keep opened eye drop bottle in the original carton to protect from light. Light may cause the medication to lose some of its effectiveness.

Throw away any remaining eye drops 4 weeks after opening. Mark the date of opening on the eye drop bottle so that you know when the bottle was opened.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Can I take/use this with other medicines?

Inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines for heart problems or high blood pressure, especially a certain type called a beta-blocker. Examples of beta-blockers include atenolol, propranolol and metoprolol.

Also inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines for stomach problems, depression, high blood pressure, diabetes or any other medicines for the eyes.

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
