About Dermol 500 lotion and how it works
This medicine helps treat and prevent dry, rough, and itchy skin associated with conditions such as dermatitis and eczema. It contains four main ingredients that work together to rehydrate dry skin and prevent infections: benzalkonium chloride, chlorhexidine, liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate.
Benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine are antiseptics that help fight and prevent skin infections. Liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate are emollients and rehydrate dry skin by helping it retain moisture. They replace skin oils and form a waterproof barrier on the skin surface preventing water loss. This moisturises and softens the skin underneath and prevents it from drying out.
This medicine is available in the form of a lotion which can either be used as a cleanser instead of soap or may be applied directly on to the skin. If you are using this medicine as a leave-on application do not apply excessive amounts to areas of skin folds such as the genitals or around the anus as this may cause skin irritation. Take care not to get this medicine into your eyes.
