Ingredients

  • DIHYDROCODEINE 30mg

How do I take/use this medicine?

Take Dihydrocodeine exactly as directed by your doctor.

Do not exceed the stated dose. Do not take more pills or more often than instructed. Do not take Dihydrocodeine for longer than instructed by the doctor as this may lead to addiction.

You may take Dihydrocodeine with or after food.

If you have been given a prolonged-release type of Dihydrocodeine, swallow it whole with water. DO NOT chew, crush or cut the prolonged-release pill. Prolonged-release pills are meant to be swallowed whole -- they release Dihydrocodeine slowly into your body over a few hours. If these pills are not swallowed whole or if they are chewed, crushed or cut, the medicine will be released too quickly into your body. This can cause serious problems such as an overdose, which may be dangerous.

Alert your doctor if Dihydrocodeine does not seem to help control your pain. Do not stop taking Dihydrocodeine without first seeking your doctor's advice.

What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have any of these conditions or any other illnesses:

- lung, liver, kidney or pancreas disease
- head injury or brain disease
- thyroid problems
- prostate enlargement or urination difficulties
- mood disorders
- heart disease

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you are currently taking or have taken a medicine known as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days. Some examples of MAOI include phenelzine, selegiline, moclobemide and tranylcypromine.

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Do not breastfeed while you are being treated with Dihydrocodeine. Dihydrocodeine goes into your breastmilk and is not suitable for your baby.

Alert your doctor if you have a brain injury, severe breathing problems or asthma, stomach or intestinal blockage. Let your doctor know if you are addicted to alcohol or drugs.

This painkiller is not suitable for children younger than 12 years old. Do not give any painkillers to a child unless it was specifically prescribed for the child by the child's doctor.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?

Avoid alcohol. Alcohol, even in small quantities, can worsen the drowsiness caused by Dihydrocodeine. It can also affect your reaction time and make it unsafe for you to drive or take part in activities in which you need to be alert.

Why do I need this medicine?

Dihydrocodeine is a painkiller. It is used to relieve moderate to severe pain, such as nerve, joint and bone pain. It is also used to relieve pain after an operation.

What side effects could I experience?

Dihydrocodeine causes drowsiness and dizziness. Do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert. Your level of alertness and reaction time may be slowed down by Dihydrocodeine.

Dihydrocodeine may also cause constipation, headache, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dry mouth and rash. Alert your doctor if these side effects become severe or do not go away.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Can I take/use this with other medicines?

Alert your doctor if you are currently taking or have taken a medicine known as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days. Some examples of MAOI include phenelzine, selegiline, moclobemide and tranylcypromine.

Alert your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here:
