How do I take/use this medicine?

Apply Dorzolamide+Timolol in the affected eye(s) exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor. Do not stop treatment with Dorzolamide+Timolol unless your doctor has advised you to do so.

Follow these steps:
1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before applying the eye drop.
2. Tilt your head slightly backwards and look upwards.
3. Use your finger to gently pull the lower eyelid down.
4. Apply the required number of drops inside the lower eyelid.
5. Close your eye and gently press the corner of your eye (near the nose bridge) for 1 minute.
6. If you have been given another eye drop to be used together with Dorzolamide+Timolol, you should wait at least 10 minutes before applying the second eye drop.

Do not allow the tip of the eye drop bottle to touch your eyes, eyelids or other surfaces. Recap the eye drop immediately after use. If the eye drop becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your eyes.

Dorzolamide+Timolol eye drop may contain a preservative known as benzalkonium chloride. This may discolour soft contact lenses and cause eye irritation. Alert your doctor if you are wearing contact lenses. You should remove your lenses when applying the eye drop. Wait for at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.

Do not share your eye drop with anyone else.

What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while being treated with Dorzolamide+Timolol.

Alert your doctor if you suffer from any of these conditions:

- liver disease

Alert your doctor if you have diabetes. You will need to monitor your sugar levels more closely while being treated with Dorzolamide+Timolol.

Inform your doctor if you suffer from any form of allergy.

Let your doctor know if you have any other eye problems or if you are about to have or have had surgery performed on your eyes.

You will need to have your eyes checked regularly to monitor the pressure in your eyes. It is important that you keep all appointments with your doctor.

Some brands of Dorzolamide+Timolol contain benzalkonium chloride as a preservative. This may discolour soft contact lens and cause eye irritation. If you are using contact lenses, you should remove your lenses when applying the eye drop. Wait for at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.

If you are going for an operation, including minor operations and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are being treated with Timolol.

Why do I need this medicine?

Dorzolamide and Timolol are combined together in this eye drop.

Dorzolamide+Timolol is used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure in the eye.

Dorzolamide+Timolol helps to lower the pressure in the eye. If left untreated, an increase in pressure within the eye can cause loss of vision and damage to the eyes.

What side effects could I experience?

Dorzolamide+Timolol may cause blurred vision or dizziness. If you are affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert or be able to see clearly.

Other common side effects with Dorzolamide+Timolol may include eye irritation, redness, discomfort or pain, tearing, dry eyes, eyelid irritation, tiredness, headache, nausea and sensitivity to light. Inform your doctor if these side effects are severe or if they do not go away.

Stop using Dorzolamide+Timolol and alert your doctor quickly if you develop an eye infection or any swelling of the eyelids.

There may also be a bitter or unpleasant taste in your mouth after you apply the eye drops. This is normal and harmless.

Other side effects are not common but may be serious. Alert your doctor immediately if you experience swelling of the face, eyes, mouth or throat, breathing difficulties, wheezing, slow or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, increased muscle weakness, low blood sugar or severe rash.

Alert your doctor if you experience any other side effects while being treated with Dorzolamide+Timolol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Store the eye drop between 15 to 30°C. The bottle should be placed in the carton after use to protect the contents from light. Light may cause the medication to lose some of its effectiveness.

Do not use for longer than 28 days after the seal on the bottle has been broken.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Can I take/use this with other medicines?

Do not use Dorzolamide+Timolol if you are taking any mood medicines or antidepressants known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Some examples of MAOIs include isocarboxazid, phenelzine, moclobemide, selegiline and tranylcypromine. Alert your doctor if you are taking or have taken any of these medicines or other MAOIs.

Inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines for heart problems or high blood pressure, especially a certain type called a beta-blocker. Examples of beta-blockers include atenolol, propranolol and metoprolol.

Also inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines for stomach problems, depression, diabetes or any other medicines for the eyes.

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
