How do I take/use this medicine?
Take Clobazam exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Clobazam must be taken regularly for it to work well. Do not skip any doses. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by your doctor. Your condition may worsen if Clobazam is stopped suddenly.
Clobazam must be taken with food. Take it with plenty of water.
What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have kidney disease, depression
- personality disorder
Alert your doctor if you have a history of drug use or alcoholism.
If you are going for an operation, including minor surgery and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking Clobazam.
Inform your doctor if fits occur more frequently while taking Clobazam.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant while being treated with Clobazam.
Clobazam must not be taken by pregnant women, especially in the first trimester. Use an appropriate birth control method while being treated with Clobazam. You may wish to discuss birth control options with your doctor.
Alert your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while being treated with Clobazam.
Alert your doctor if you have an eye disease known as glaucoma, liver disease, sleep apnoea (difficulty breathing while asleep), myasthenia gravis or severe lung disease such as asthma.
Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice.
Why do I need this medicine?
Clobazam is used to treat epilepsy (also known as fits or seizures).
Clobazam is also used to treat anxiety and schizophrenia.
What side effects could I experience?
Clobazam may cause dizziness and drowsiness. If you feel dizzy or drowsy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Clobazam may also cause headache, tiredness, nausea, loss of appetite, uncoordinated movements, dry mouth and blurred vision. You may also experience mood changes, irritability, anxiety, loss of memory and difficulty sleeping. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects are severe or refuse to go away.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Can I take/use this with other medicines?
Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicine especially those listed here:
- antidepressants such as fluoxetine, paroxetine
- sleeping pills
- other epilepsy medicines such as phenytoin, carbamazepine
- asthma medicines such as theophylline
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
