How do I take/use this medicine?
Use Sodium Cromoglycate exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Sodium Cromoglycate is available as different types of devices, such as an inhaler or capsule spinhaler. It is also available as a nebulising solution, to be used with a machine called a nebuliser.
Make sure you know how to use the type of device or machine you have been given. If you have problems or do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist to show you how to use it.
Sodium Cromoglycate must be used exactly as directed for it to work well. Continue using Sodium Cromoglycate even when you feel better. Do not stop using it unless instructed by your doctor. Your condition may worsen if Sodium Cromoglycate is stopped suddenly.
It may take a few weeks before the full benefit of Sodium Cromoglycate can be seen.
If you are using Sodium Cromoglycate to relieve asthma brought on by exercise, use your inhaler 10-15 minutes before you start exercising.
What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Alert your doctor if you feel worse or if your asthma medicines do not seem to give as much relief as before.
While you are being treated with Sodium Cromoglycate, continue to take the rest of your asthma medicines as instructed by your doctor. Do not stop taking any of your asthma medicines unless your doctor specifically told you to do so.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not use Sodium Cromoglycate to relieve a sudden attack of breathlessness. Sodium Cromoglycate cannot relieve an acute asthma attack. Use your fast-acting bronchodilator prescribed by the doctor to relieve such attacks.
Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Why do I need this medicine?
Sodium Cromoglycate is used together with other medicines to treat asthma.
Sodium Cromoglycate helps to relax the airways in your lungs. This will relieve chest tightness, wheezing and cough so that you can breathe more easily.
What side effects could I experience?
Sodium Cromoglycate may cause sore throat, cough, nausea, wheezing, sneezing and a bad taste in the mouth.
Inform your doctor if you experience any other side effects.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Can I take/use this with other medicines?
Alert your doctor if you are taking any other asthma medicines.
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
