How do I take/use this medicine?
Apply Latanoprost in the affected eye(s) exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor. Do not stop treatment with Latanoprost unless your doctor has advised you to do so.
Latanoprost is best applied in the evening.
Follow these steps:
1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before applying the eye drop.
2. Tilt your head slightly backwards and look upwards.
3. Use your finger to gently pull the lower eyelid down.
4. Apply the required number of drops inside the lower eyelid.
5. Close your eye and gently press the corner of your eye (near the nose bridge) for 1 minute.
6. If you have been given another eye drop to be used together with Latanoprost, you should wait at least 5 minutes before applying the second eye drop.
Do not allow the tip of the eye drop bottle to touch your eyes, eyelids or other surfaces. Recap the eye drop immediately after use. If the eye drop becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your eyes.
Latanoprost eye drop may contain a preservative known as benzalkonium chloride. This may discolour soft contact lenses and cause eye irritation. If you are wearing contact lenses, you should remove your lenses when applying the eye drop. Wait for at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.
Do not share your eye drop with anyone else.
What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Inform your doctor if you suffer from asthma, any other eye problems or if you are about to have or have had surgery performed on your eyes.
Alert your doctor if you have any eye infection.
You will need to have your eyes checked regularly to monitor the pressure in your eyes. It is important that you keep all appointments with your doctor.
Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Why do I need this medicine?
Latanoprost is used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure in the eye.
Latanoprost helps to lower the pressure in the eye. If left untreated, an increase in pressure within the eye can cause loss of vision and damage to the eyes.
What side effects could I experience?
You may experience blurred vision with Latanoprost. If you are not able to see clearly, do not drive or take part in any activity for which you need to see clearly.
Latanoprost may cause a gradual change in the colour of your eye, eyelashes and eyelid. You may also experience an increased growth and thickening of your eyelashes. These changes usually occur over months or years and may be permanent. It is usually more noticeable if you are using Latanoprost in only one eye.
Other common side effects with Latanoprost may include eye irritation, redness or pain, as well as swelling of the eyelids. Inform your doctor if these side effects are severe or if they do not go away.
Alert your doctor immediately if you experience these rare but serious side effects: shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat, redness, swelling and chest pain.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Store the unopened eye drop in the refrigerator between 2 to 8Â°C, away from light.
The opened eye drop should be stored below 25Â°C. The bottle should be placed in the carton after use to protect the contents from light.
Do not use for longer than 28 days after the seal on the bottle has been broken.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Can I take/use this with other medicines?
Alert the doctor if you are using any other eye preparations or medicines.
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
