How do I take/use this medicine?
Apply Latanoprost+Timolol in the affected eye(s) exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor. Do not stop treatment with Latanoprost+Timolol unless your doctor has advised you to do so.
Latanoprost+Timolol is best applied in the evening.
Follow these steps:
1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before applying the eye drop.
2. Tilt your head slightly backwards and look upwards.
3. Use your finger to gently pull the lower eyelid down.
4. Apply the required number of drops inside the lower eyelid.
5. Close your eye and gently press the corner of your eye (near the nose bridge) for 1 minute.
6. If you have been given another eye drop to be used together with Latanoprost+Timolol, you should wait at least 5 minutes before applying the second eye drop.
Do not allow the tip of the eye drop bottle to touch your eyes, eyelids or other surfaces. Recap the eye drop immediately after use. If the eye drop becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your eyes.
Latanoprost+Timolol eye drop may contain a preservative known as benzalkonium chloride. This may discolour soft contact lenses and cause eye irritation. If you are wearing contact lenses, you should remove your lenses when applying the eye drop. Wait for at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.
Do not share your eye drop with anyone else.
What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Alert your doctor if you suffer from thyroid disease, low blood sugar or any metabolic conditions. Inform your doctor if you have any other eye problems or if you are about to have or have had surgery performed on your eyes.
If you have diabetes, you will need to monitor your sugar levels more closely while being treated with Latanoprost+Timolol.
Inform your doctor if you suffer from any form of allergy.
Alert your doctor if you have any eye infection.
You will need to have your eyes checked regularly to monitor the pressure in your eyes. It is important that you keep all appointments with your doctor.
If you are going for an operation, including minor operations and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are being treated with Latanoprost+Timolol.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have a history of, or suffer from any of these conditions:
- heart disease
- lung disease
- circulatory problems such as Raynaud's disease
- chest pain (Prinzmetal's angina)
- an adrenal gland tumour known as phaeochromocytoma
- low blood pressure
- problems with your cornea
Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Why do I need this medicine?
Latanoprost and Timolol are combined together in this eye drop.
Latanoprost+Timolol is used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure in the eye.
This eye drop helps to lower the pressure in the eye. If left untreated, an increase in pressure within the eye can cause loss of vision and damage to the eyes.
What side effects could I experience?
Latanoprost+Timolol may cause blurred vision, dizziness or tiredness. If you are affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert or be able to see clearly.
Common side effects with Latanoprost+Timolol may include permanent change in eye colour over a period of time, eye irritation, redness or pain, headache and skin rash. Inform your doctor if these side effects are severe or if they do not go away.
Other side effects are not common but may be serious. Alert your doctor immediately if you experience: swelling mainly of the face and throat, breathing difficulties, coughing or wheezing, slow or irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, chest pain, muscle weakness or low blood sugar.
Alert your doctor if you experience any other side effects while being treated with Latanoprost+Timolol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Store unopened bottles in the refrigerator between 2 to 8Â°C.
Keep the opened bottle in the carton below 25Â°C, protected from light. Throw away any remaining eye drops 4 weeks after opening. Mark the date of opening on the eye drop bottle so that you know when the bottle was opened.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Can I take/use this with other medicines?
Do not use Latanoprost+Timolol eye drops if you are taking any mood medicines or antidepressants known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Some examples of MAOIs include isocarboxazid, phenelzine, moclobemide, selegiline and tranylcypromine. Alert your doctor if you are taking or have taken any of these medicines or other MAOIs.
Inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines for heart problems or high blood pressure, especially a certain type called a beta-blocker. Examples of beta-blockers include atenolol, propranolol and metoprolol.
Also inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines for stomach problems, depression, diabetes or any other medicines for the eyes.
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
