Ingredients

  • KETOCONAZOLE 200mg

How do I take/use this medicine?

Take Ketoconazole exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take Ketoconazole at regular intervals as instructed. Do not skip any doses. Continue to take it even when you feel better.

Fungal infections usually take a longer time to heal. You may need to take Ketoconazole for a few weeks or months, depending on your doctor's advice. You must complete the entire course of Ketoconazole. If you don't, the infection will not clear completely.

Take Ketoconazole with food or immediately after a meal.

What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have porphyria or adrenal gland disorder.

Maintain proper hygiene as this is important in helping to control fungal infections.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you ever had an allergic reaction (breathlessness, rashes, swollen eyes) to similar antifungal medications such as fluconazole, itraconazole and voriconazole.

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant while being treated with Ketoconazole. Use effective birth control methods while being treated with Ketoconazole. You may wish to discuss birth control options with your doctor or pharmacist.

Alert your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

Do not take Ketoconazole if you have liver disease.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?

Avoid alcohol while being treated with Ketoconazole and for 48 hours after the last dose.

Otherwise, you may experience severe flushing, headache, nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps.

Why do I need this medicine?

Ketoconazole is an antifungal medicine.

It is used to treat fungal infections of the mouth, skin, hair, nails, vagina, urinary tract, blood and other organs.

What side effects could I experience?

Ketoconazole may cause nausea, stomach pain and itchy skin. These side effects are usually temporary.

If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes, stop the medicine and inform your doctor quickly. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.

Ketoconazole may cause other side effects. Consult your doctor if you have unusual problems while taking this medicine.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Can I take/use this with other medicines?

Do not take Ketoconazole with these medicines:

- cisapride, domperidone (gastric medicines)
- terfenadine, astemizole, mizolastine (medicines for allergy)
- midazolam, triazolam (sleeping pills)
- simvastatin, lovastatin (cholesterol medicines)
- quinidine, dofetilide (heart medicines)

Alert your doctor if you are also taking the following medicines:
- clopidogrel or warfarin (blood-thinning medicines)
- phenytoin, carbamazepine (epilepsy medicines)
- rifampicin, rifabutin, isonazid (medicines used to treat tuberculosis or TB)
- indinavir, saquinavir, ritonavir (medicines used to treat AIDS)
- migraine medicines containing ergotamine or dihydroergotamine
- busulphan, vinca alkaloids, docetaxel (cancer medicines)
- cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus (medicines for organ transplant)
- verapamil and certain heart or blood pressure medicines
- digoxin (a heart medicine)
- birth control pills

- alfentanil (a painkiller)
- sildenafil (a medicine for erectile dysfunction)
- trimetrexate (a medicine treating lung infections)
- alprazolam, brotizolam (sleeping pills)

Do not take Ketoconazole together with antacids and sucralfate as they reduce the effectiveness of Ketoconazole. If you must take antacids, take them at least 2 hour after you have taken Ketoconazole.

Other gastric medicines such as cimetidine, esomeprazole, famotidine, lansoprazole, omeprazole and ranitidine can reduce the absorption of Ketoconazole. If you must take any of these medications, take Ketoconazole with a cola soft drink.

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal medicines and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
