called antihistamines which help relieve the symptoms of some allergies and itchy skin rashes. The Piriton Syrup is used to treat the allergic symptoms (runny or itchy nose with or without stuffiness) caused by hayfever and other allergies e.g. pet and house dust mite allergies. The syrup relieves itchiness, redness, swelling, tenderness and irritation associated with many skin problems Hayfever Skin Allergies Food Allergies Pet Allergies House Dust Mite Allergies Insect Bites Mould Spore Allergies Also relieves the itchy rash of Chicken Pox Ingredients: Each 5ml of syrup contains 2 mg of chlorphenamine maleate as the active ingredient. Also includes sucrose, glycerol, ethanol and a mixture of methyl, ethyl and propyl hydroxybenzoates (E218, E214 and E216). See leaflet for further advice. Dosage: For Oral Use. 1 - 2 Years - One small 2.5ml spoonful twice daily - Maximum Daily Dose: 2 small 2.5ml spoonfuls (5ml). 2 - 6 Years - One small 2.5ml spoonful every 4 - 6 hours.- Maximum Daily Dose: 6 small 2.5ml spoonfuls (15ml). 6 - 12 Years - One large 5ml spoonful every 4 - 6 hours - Maximum Daily Dose: 6 large 5ml spoonfuls (30ml). Adults and Children over 12 years - Two large 5ml spoonfuls (10ml) every 4 - 6 hours - Maximum Daily Dose: 12 large 5ml spoonfuls (60ml). Not recommended for children under 12 months. Do not take the Syrup if you: Are allergic to antihistamines or to any of the ingredients listed above. Have taken drugs for depression called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last 14 days. Have epilepsy, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, an overactive thyroid, very high blood pressure, or heart, liver or lung disease. Are taking drugs to treat anxiety or to help you sleep. Are taking any medicine containing phenytoin for epilepsy. Consult your doctor before taking these tablets if you are pregnant or breast feeding. These tablets may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision and loss of co-ordination. If you experience any of these effects do not drive or operate machinery. Please read enclosed leaflet carefully before use.

How do I take/use this medicine?

Take Chlorpheniramine exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take Chlorpheniramine with or without food. Take it with a full glass of water.

You may stop taking Chlorpheniramine once you feel better, unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise.

What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions: epilepsy, overactive thyroid gland, high blood pressure, heart, liver or lung disease.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Chlorpheniramine to a child or elderly person. Children and elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.

Chlorpheniramine syrup also contains alcohol. Use with caution in young children and heavy alcohol drinkers.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you are taking antidepressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), or have taken them for the last 14 days. Some examples of MAOIs include moclobemide, phenelzine and tranylcypromine.

Alert your doctor if you have glaucoma, asthma, stomach or intestinal ulcers, prostate problems or difficulty in urination.

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while you are on Chlorpheniramine.

Do not give Chlorpheniramine to premature and newborn babies or children below 2 years old.

Do not give Chlorpheniramine to any child unless advised by the child's doctor or a pharmacist.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?

Avoid alcohol.

Why do I need this medicine?

Chlorpheniramine helps to relieve symptoms of cold and allergy, such as runny nose, itch, watery eyes and sneezing. It also helps relieve allergic skin conditions such as hives, itchy rash due to insect bites or chicken pox.

Chlorpheniramine belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines.

What side effects could I experience?

Chlorpheniramine may cause drowsiness and dizziness. If you feel drowsy or dizzy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Chlorpheniramine may also cause dry mouth, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, difficulty passing urine, headache, tiredness, nervousness, thickening of phlegm. These side effects are usually mild and uncommon. Alert your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or refuse to go away.

Alert your doctor if you experience any other side effects while being treated with Chlorpheniramine. Also inform your doctor if your condition does not improve while taking Chlorpheniramine.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Chlorpheniramine syrup should be kept away from light.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Can I take/use this with other medicines?

Alert your doctor if you are taking antidepressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), or have taken them for the last 14 days. Some examples of MAOIs include moclobemide, phenelzine and tranylcypromine.

Alert your doctor if you are taking anxiety medicines, sleeping pills or an epilepsy medicine called phenytoin.

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
