How do I take/use this medicine?
Take Calcium Folinate exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Take Calcium Folinate at regular intervals as instructed. Try to take it at the same time each day. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Continue to take Calcium Folinate even when you feel better. Do not skip any doses. Do not stop taking Calcium Folinate unless your doctor has advised you to do so.
What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have kidney disease or any blood disorders.
Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Why do I need this medicine?
Calcium Folinate is used to reduce the side effects of certain medications such as methotrexate, trimethoprim and pyrimethamine.
Calcium Folinate may also be used to treat or prevent certain types of anaemia. Anaemia is a blood disorder in which there are not enough red blood cells.
What side effects could I experience?
Calcium Folinate by itself usually does not cause many side effects. Fever, problems sleeping, stomach discomfort and mood changes are some of the side effects of Calcium Folinate.
Alert your doctor quickly if you develop any signs of allergy such as breathlessness, rashes or swollen eyes.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Can I take/use this with other medicines?
Do not take Calcium Folinate at the same time with methotrexate. If you are also taking methotrexate, take Calcium Folinate 12-24 hours apart from methotrexate. Ask your doctor to give you specific instructions about how to take Calcium Folinate.
Inform your doctor if you are taking any epilepsy medicines such as phenytoin, phenobarbitone or primidone.
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
