How do I take/use this medicine?
Take Levocetirizine exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
You may take Levocetirizine with or without food. Take it in the evening.
You may stop taking Levocetirizine once you feel better, unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise.
Levocetirizine is available as a tablet or a solution.
If you have been given the tablet, swallow it whole with water. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
If you have been given the solution, use the dosing syringe provided to measure out the dose. You may take the solution undiluted (as it is) or you may mix it in a glass of water before drinking.
What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have epilepsy, overactive thyroid gland, high blood pressure, heart or lung disease.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking anxiety medicines, antidepressants or sleeping pills.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you ever had an allergic reaction to a similar antihistamine called cetirizine.
Alert your doctor if you have kidney disease, glaucoma, asthma, stomach or intestinal ulcers, prostate problems or difficulty in urination.
Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while you are on Levocetirizine.
Do not give Levocetirizine to premature and newborn babies or children below 2 years old.
Do not give Levocetirizine to children below 12 years old if they have kidney disease.
Do not give Levocetirizine to any child unless advised by the child's doctor or a pharmacist.
Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Why do I need this medicine?
Levocetirizine helps to relieve symptoms of cold and allergy, such as runny nose, itch, watery eyes and sneezing. It also helps relieve allergic skin conditions such as hives, itchy rash due to insect bites or chicken pox.
Levocetirizine belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines.
What side effects could I experience?
Rarely, Levocetirizine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you feel dizzy or drowsy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Levocetirizine may also cause tiredness, stomach discomfort and dry mouth.
Alert your doctor if the above symptoms are severe or refuse to go away.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
For the solution, discard 3 months after you open it for the first time.
Can I take/use this with other medicines?
Alert your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:
- anxiety medicines, antidepressants or sleeping pills
- other medicines for allergy
- medicines to improve nerve and muscle functions
- medicines used for stomach cramps, muscle spasms, asthma, or motion sickness
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
