Allergic rhinitis which has symptoms including sneezing, runny eyes or nose, headaches, nasal congestion, itching of the nose or soft palate, and general tiredness. These are caused by histamine, which is released on contact with allergens. Hayfever is an allergic response to pollen from trees, grasses and plants that usually occurs during the summer months. Symptoms can also be triggered by spores from moulds and fungi. Eye symptoms such as photophobia, and itchy or gritty feeling, and allergic conjunctivitis, are common in hayfever. About half of sufferers experience symptoms all year round in a condition called perennial allergic rhinitis. This can be triggered by house dust mites, pets and certain foods, drugs and chemicals.
