How do I take/use this medicine?

Take Lormetazepam exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Do not take Lormetazepam for a longer period of time than instructed by your doctor.

It is not advisable to take Lormetazepam long-term. See your doctor if Lormetazepam does not seem to help you.

You may take Lormetazepam with or without food. Take it just before you go to bed.

You should take Lormetazepam only when you have problems sleeping and when you are able to sleep for 7-8 hours without being interrupted.

If you have been taking Lormetazepam over a certain period of time, do not stop taking Lormetazepam suddenly as this may cause withdrawal symptoms such as headache, restlessness, confusion, depression and anxiety. Your doctor will reduce the dose of Lormetazepam gradually before stopping it completely. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

What should I take note of while using/taking this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have kidney disease.

Alert your doctor if you are an alcoholic or if you have a history of drug abuse.

Alert your doctor if you have depression or a history of depression.

Take Lormetazepam only when you need to. Try not to make a habit of relying on Lormetazepam to help you sleep. Lormetazepam should only be used for a short period of time. Do not take Lormetazepam for a longer period of time than instructed by your doctor.

Practise good sleeping habits to reduce reliance on sleeping pills. These are some good sleeping habits which you should follow:

- Try to relax before bedtime. Do not engage in strenuous activities.
- Try to go to bed at about the same time every night.
- Have a light dinner. A heavy dinner may disturb your sleep.
- Avoid caffeine in the evening. Caffeine-containing food and drink include coffee, tea, certain soft drinks and even chocolate.
- Avoid drinking alcohol before bedtime.
- Keep your bedroom quiet, dark and airy.
- Avoid taking naps especially in the late afternoon.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant while being treated with Lormetazepam. Do not take Lormetazepam if you are pregnant .

It is important that you do not get pregnant while being treated with Lormetazepam. Use appropriate birth control.

Alert your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while being treated with Lormetazepam.

Alert your doctor if you ever had an allergic reaction to other sleeping pills, such as diazepam, midazolam, lorazepam and others.

Alert your doctor if you have liver disease or an eye disease known as glaucoma.

Alert your doctor if you have lung or breathing problems such as sleep apnea, myasthenia gravis, any mood or psychiatric problems, or if you are at risk of falls.

Do not give Lormetazepam to children, unless specifically instructed by the child's doctor.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?

Avoid alcohol.

Why do I need this medicine?

Lormetazepam is a sleeping pill. It helps you sleep if you have problems sleeping (also known as insomnia).

What side effects could I experience?

Lormetazepam may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Lormetazepam may also cause some memory loss, headache, confusion, stomach discomfort and tiredness.

Lormetazepam may cause aggressiveness, restlessness, irritability, hallucinations and nightmares in some people. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of these symptoms.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Can I take/use this with other medicines?

Alert your doctor quickly if you are taking:

- other sleeping pills
- any medicines that cause drowsiness such as opioid (morphine-like) painkillers, antihistamines, medicines for mood and personality problems
- epilepsy medicines

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription
