Athletes Foot (Tinea Pedis) is an irritating infection caused by fungus that thrives in warm damp shoes such as trainers. The fungal spores are transferred from one person to another within the fragments of skin protein (keratin) that are continually shed from the feet. The infection can be picked up simply by walking bare foot across a damp floor, for example in a communal shower or changing room. At first the skin becomes itchy and sore, then starts to crack and peel. Sometimes the skin may appear white or inflamed and weepy.
